Where is it hot and cheap in December?

The winters up north can be icy, and many of us migrate like birds in search of warmer weather, even if only for a week or two. Moi included. So, what are our options?

Top of my list is South Africa because the Euro/Dollar exchange to the South African Rand (ZAR) makes for the best holiday deal. In addition, you have a wide choice of holiday fun things to do like basking in the sun, going on a safari, wine tasting, food experiences, and the list goes on and on.

Costa Rica‘s peak season also falls in December and here you also have world-class beaches. Nature is big in Costa Rica with amazing jungles, volcanoes, and forests. Puntarenas is known for having jaw-dropping beaches in Costa Rica.

In Asia, you have a choice between Dubai, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bali, and Thailand. Thailand has its rainy season over December, but the temperatures are still hot. Places like Phuket and Ko Phi Phi are better than just good for a warm December holiday.

If you’re looking to tick India and the Indian Ocean off your bucket list, consider going to Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Delhi, or Mumbai. You can expect up to nine hours of sun, which makes for a pretty amazing break from the cold winter weather.

In addition to South Africa, Africa has a few other choices with equally amazing prices, like Morocco, Egypt, and Cape Verde off the west coast of Africa.

The Caribbean is another region with the most fabulous holiday options like Jamaica, and Havana. Or sip cocktails in the Bahamas or Curaçao.

Silfra Rift Iceland most unusual strangest places in the world on earth

One of the most unusual phenomena on earth

Two continents and two tectonic plates, the North American and Eurasian plates, are divided by the Silfra Rift, one of the world’s least-known locations.

It takes up an area that is roughly 600 by 200 meters. Snorkeling in Silfra Rift is one of Iceland’s most amazing experiences. On your journey to Iceland, be sure to indulge. The splendor of this natural gem will wow you. Get ready to be amazed by one of the strangest places on earth.

Edinburgh go to the Glenkinchie Distillery whisky tasting Scotland lightest whisky vanilla whisky min

A must-do near Edinburgh

If ever you find yourself in Edinburgh, go to the Glenkinchie Distillery. Imagine 90,000 bottles of Whiskey evaporating each year!? They call it the “Angels’ share”! Those angels must be VERY happy. (lol)

I’m not a Whisky drinker but it’s not every day that one gets to tour Scotland. I thoroughly enjoyed the whisky tasting. My preferred whisky was The Glenlossie. It has a vanilla undertone and is the lightest in the range.

Glenkinchie lies, as the name might suggest, in a glen of the Kinchie Burn near the village of Pencaitland, East Lothian. It is situated about fifteen miles from Edinburgh. The distillery is set on farmland. The name ‘Kinchie’ is a corruption of ‘De Quincy’, the original owners of the land. Its origins date back to around 1825.

The Grimm Fairy Tales

There are several spooky wooden sculptures by Thomas Rees in the woods next to the Freiburg Waldhaus, a German environmental institute. They are not at all touristic and are located along a nice stroll with additional routes close by. The Grimm Fairy Tales are frequently mentioned.

Blood Falls, Antarctica

A spooky respite from the endless whiteness of the winter.

Due to the massive levels of iron present, the water is red in hue. The red coloring is due to “oxidized iron in brine saltwater, the same process that gives the iron a dark red color when it rusts”. – Researchers of the University of Alaska.

Death Valley in California is known for its Sailing Stones a mystery weird unusual spooky places

Death Valley in California

How weird is this? Death Valley in California is known for its Sailing Stones, a mystery that has bewildered many generations since 1915. 😱

The discovery of a track inscribed by a particular stone that had moved in the dry land prompted the locals to study the geological phenomenon to learn more about this mystery. Since then, many rocks have moved on their own. It’s believed that the movement is the result of the formation of ice around the stones (although unconfirmed).
