Let’s look at some beautiful holiday destinations in Europe that is also affordable for South African travelers.  Since South Africa was / and in some cases still is, the home town of many of our team members, we thought to explore which places would be good travel options for them, without braking the bank.  So here are 7 Affordable holiday destinations in Europe.

Lithuania

Discover the lakeside town of Trakai.  A tour from Vilnius to Trakai is definitely worth doing.  The guides are informative and you will see stunning castles like the: Insular Castle and Gothic-style monuments of the beautiful Old Town. 

If it is coastal area you are after, Palanga is your destination in Lithuania.  (Along the way you can stop in Kaunas for some sight-seeing.)

The resort town of Palanga is on the Lithuanian Baltic coast. Here you can enjoy Palangos Pliažas beach, the Palangos Tiltas, L-shaped pier, and experience the lively, pedestrianized Basanavičiaus Street, lined with bars and restaurants.

A visit to the Tiskevičiai Palace houses the Palanga Amber Museum, is a good stop to make.

Another must-see in Lithuania is the Trakai Island Castle in Trakia.

In the beautiful country of Estonia we would definitely recommend a trip to Tallinn.

This beautiful destination (Estonia’s capital) is situated on the Baltic Sea and has the most beautiful “old town” with cobblestone streets and cute shops you just have to visit.

Visit the Kiek in de Kök, a 15th-century defensive tower and St. Nicholas Church while you’re there.

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Certainly one of the most photographed places in Bosnia & Herzegovina, is the Stari Most, also known as the Mostar Bridge: crossing the river Neretva and connecting the two parts of the city. 

The Mostar Bride is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and definitely also a popular Instagram photo spot. 

The Village Mostar with its interesting architecture is definitely worth a visit.

Nessebar is definitely our favorite stop.  This town in Burgas Province, on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast as quite a few interesting stops and sight-seeing places and a beautiful coastline.

Must-see places in Nessebar, include places like The Belogradchik Fortress (also known as Kaleto), Byzantine-era fortifications, and baths. The ruins of the 5th-century Church of St. Sofia and the 11th-century Church of St. Stephen.

Romania

Bucuresti Bucharest Romania

Bucharest (Bucuresti) is the capital of Romania.  Romania is known for the region of Transylvania, and the spectacular Carpathian Mountains.  Certainly the Bran Castle associated with Count Dracula, is one of the most famous places to visit.  Our other favorite stop is Orşova.
