New Year's Eve

It is a family tradition to watch Dinner for One on the evening of 31 December. Every year we would laugh as if we’ve seen it for the very first time. It is just one of those classics.  Just for fun, please scroll down to the bottom of this page to watch the short video. Young and old will enjoy James, but let’s not discount our precious Miss Sophy!

It is also where the phrase “SAME procedure as EVERY year, James” was coined.

TravelAndHome's New Year Wish for You

The beautiful song I Will Always Love You, brings to mind our New Year’s wishes to you.

Whether it’s the start of a new calendar year or the start of a new birth year, our wish to you is…

“I hope life, treats you kind
And I hope that you have all
That you ever dreamed of
I wish you joy
And I wish you happiness
But above all this
I wish you love”

  • Performed by South Africa‘s own Steve Hofmeyr & Demi-Lee Moore

Stay in touch with your loved ones

With the Coronavirus impacting this past year, very little will be the same as last year. There will no doubt be new inventions and lifestyle trends born out of the pandemic that will impact our social lives.

One that immediately comes to mind is family gatherings, or friends getting together for a good old chat.

Being in lockdown does not mean you have to distance yourself from social gatherings. You can still get together, just not physically. WhatsApp and Skype offer the opportunity to get together as a group, without physically in each other’s company. It is social distancing but also social gathering with a new flavor… E-VISITS!

Lockdown is easier in the beginning. It gets harder as time marches on. Cabin fever and the urge to just see someone different becomes almost all-consuming.

Here’s how you can fight cabin-fever. There are many different applications to use on your mobile or computer to enjoy an e-visit

One popular application is WhatsApp.

  1. Go to the group you want to video call.
  2. Tap Group call.
  3. Search for or select the contacts you want to add to the call.
  4. Tap Video Call.
To make a group video call from the CALLS tab:
  1. Go to the CALLS tab.
  2. Tap New call  > New group call.
  3. Search for or select the contacts you want to add to the call.

To make a group video call from an individual chat:
  1. Open the chat with one of the contacts you want to video call.
  2. Tap Video call.

  4. Search for or select another contact you want to add to the call. If prompted, tap ADD.
Note:
  • Make sure you and your contacts have strong Internet connections when placing or receiving group video calls. The quality of the video call will depend on the contact with the weakest connection.
  • When you receive a group video call, the incoming WHATSAPP VIDEO CALL screen will show the participants currently on the call, and the first contact listed will be the participant that added you.
  • During a group video call, you have the option to turn your video off by tapping Video off.
  • You can’t remove a contact during a group video call. The contact would need to hang up their phone to disconnect from the call.
  • Group video call history will appear in the CALLS tab. You can tap the call history to view the individual contacts from the call.
  • While it’s possible to be in a group video call with someone you’ve blocked, you can’t add a contact that you’ve blocked to the call or a contact that has blocked you.
