If ever you want to see one of the most beautiful spots in Italy, it would be the Italian Alps, called the Dolomites. (Italian: Alpi Dolomitiche). This is simply a must see and an item for any travel bucket-list.
This mountain range, bounded by the beautiful valleys of the Isarco, Pusteria, Piave, the Brenta and Adige, is simply spectacular. The Dolomites are situated in Trentino-South Tyrol and the highest point is Marmolada.
Belluno town in the province of the Veneto region in the North of Italy, is situated between the Piaye and Ardo rivers and is considered the gateway to the Dolomites.
Being not far from Venice, you can travel the approximate 2 h 39 min route by car – (164,9 km) via the A27 and stay in the city of Belluno to explore from there. It is a beautiful city with rolling hills, the mountains as a backdrop and peaceful meadow vistas all over.
You can make use of public transport, but we would recommend renting a car as this allows you to see all the “hidden gems” in the area which is not always on the public transport routes.
The area is perfect for the mountain bike enthusiast.
Summer (June to August) is beautiful and green and the mountains are full of life. This is my favourite time, but if you love snow, obviously you would want to experience a winter wonderland during winter (December to March). An excellent time to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing adventures.
Autumn (September and October) are still beautiful in the Dolomites with light snow possibility on the higher spots.
Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee) – One of the region’s most beautiful lakes.
Lago di Sorapis – A beautiful hiking spot in the mountains.
Seceda Mountain – If you love hiking and you love beautiful Alpine views, you just have to go.
Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen) – The Three Peaks in the Sexten Dolomites are probably one of the best-known mountain groups in the Alps.
Lago di Carezza (Karersee) – Surrounded by beautiful trees and known for its wonderful colors and its view of the Latemar mountain range.
Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm) – Explore the Seiser Alm a plateau and the largest high-altitude Alpine meadow in Europe. This is a major tourist attraction, notably for skiing and hiking.
Lake Misurina (Italian: Lago di Misurina) is the largest natural lake of the Cadore and it is simply beautiful. (near Auronzo di Cadore – Belluno)
If you want to spoil yourself or just have an “out of this world” experience, you simply have to book your accommodation at the Cristallo Marriott.
The nearest international airport to Belluno is 97 km to Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE / LIPZ).
