Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries, meringue, and whipped cream. (All of my favorites.)
You can make your own Meringues, but the easiest no-fuss way of making this fantastic dessert is to get all your ingredients ‘ready-made’.
As mentioned, there is nothing wrong with store-bought meringues. If you buy everything, you are ready to assemble this dessert in no time at all.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
So why is it called Eton Mess?
The reason it’s called Eton Mess is that it’s traditionally served at Eton College during their annual cricket game.
Funny enough you can add bananas, but then it is called Lancing mess. This is a similar dessert that is served throughout the year at Lancing College in West Sussex, England.
Now don’t you agree that this dessert will look fabulous on any summer Christmas table? As it is strawberry season in the summertime, it is perfect. You can substitute the strawberries with basically any berry, but raspberries will work the best if you have to. Or mix half strawberries and half raspberries.
To decorate, top it off with a simple little mint leaf and you’re ready to go. Your guests will be very impressed, and I won’t tell if you sneak in a quick squeeze of chocolate syrup on top…
