Memorable Greve

Greve is a small principal town in Val di Greve in the Chianti wine district of Florence.

In mid-September (a great time of the year to visit) we stopped at Greve in Chianti (it was renamed in 1972) for an afternoon excursion and meandered through the quaint shops. We bought the most beautiful tablecloths!

Don’t expect a lot of tourists because it is well off the beaten track.

In Greve, you will find good wine, olive oil, and truffles!!!

Macelleria Falorni is located in Greve, i.e. one of Italy’s oldest (over 200 years) and well-known butcher shops. Pork, rabbit, pigeon, venison, and wild boar are available on many menus.

The vineyards surrounding Greve in Chianti are simply breathtakingly beautiful. We were there in the summertime. I continuously stopped alongside the road to take photos of the countryside. Simply gorgeous!

Greve in Denmark is the twin city of Greve in Chianti. We visited Greve In Chianti with our Danish friends, so it was rather apt!

Wine Tasting

When we arrived at Greve in Chianti, we were rather peckish and keen to taste some local wine. Wine Lovers Academy caught our eye and we were very happy to have stopped at this friendly establishment. They were happy too, as we ended up buying a fair amount of wine! We enjoyed our wine tasting paired with a light lunch while sitting at the quaint outside patio. The staff was amazing and very knowledgeable.

A hidden gem... San Martino Ristorante

Just a short drive from Greve in Chianti (via the SR 222) we found a hidden gem, ie. Ristorante San Martino. Completely unexpected between the breathtakingly beautiful views of the countryside, lies this welcome pitstop. We had a lunner (I coined a meal between lunch and dinner, a lunner) which ended up much longer than planned.

Despite having arrived at an awkward time, the staff were warm and friendly, making us  (a group of four) feel at home almost instantly. The service was excellent. We felt like seafood, and that too was excellent. The wine was excellent. All-in-all, we walked out feeling we had a GREAT time! I’m sharing a few photos in the gallery below.
