When In Doubt, just travel to Guanacaste!

Today’s Guanacaste Travel Guide will take you through some of the best that the province has to offer. We start off in Vida Aventura and end off with spectacular beach views. Also, you get a complimentary Guanacaste travel itinerary to summarize our travels in Guanacaste Province.

How many days in Guanacaste?

That is a question I’m asked often, and the answer is quite easy. Allow at least five days to experience the highlights of this beautiful province. A week to 10 days will give you ample time to enjoy the beaches and explore the rest of the Province.

Is it worth going to Guanacaste?

Absolutely! Well, that is if you’re into pristine beaches, amazing wildlife, super friendly and kind people, stunning mountain ranges, and exploring volcanoes. Did I mention it’s a tropical paradise?

Guanacaste Beaches

Being a beach lover is one of the things I got right. And if you’re looking for pristine beaches in Costa Rica; look no further. Guanacaste’s endless coastline along the Pacific Ocean provides for great Pacific surf. With more than 643 km (400 miles) of sun-splashed light sand beaches, it is a dream come true for holidaymakers.

Useful Links:

Mosquitoes can be quite a problem in the summer, so go prepared with plenty of mosquito repellant. Also repellant to spray on fabric because they can bite through thin material. Generally, mosquitoes are least likely to bite during the middle part of the day when the sun and heat are at their peak. But as we know, they thrive on hot weather. So, the warmer it gets the more mosquitoes.

Good to know:

This province is not different than the rest of Costa Rica when it comes to the use of toilet paper. Many systems are either septic or composting. Therefore, the use of an excessive amount of toilet paper is problematic. Thus, the toilet paper bins you’ll find all over Costa Rica.

Ziplining

I mentioned only two of the most outstanding zip line experiences in Guanacaste. However, when it comes to picking one that calls your name, use the link above. Guanacaste’s options for zip-lining adventures are endless.

Travel-And-Home Hotel Review

The resort lies in the tiny village of San Jose de Pinilla. If you like lots of action, Tamarindo (which I cover down below) will probably be more attractive to you. But if you’re looking for a laid-back family holiday or honeymoon trip, this is it.

Like I mentioned earlier, I am a beach lover. Therefore it comes as no surprise that JW Marriott got it spot-on right in terms of location. Furthermore, your stay at JW Marriot allows you access to Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club with a complimentary shuttle service to the beach club.

And once again, the friendliness of the Costa Rican people blew me away. It’s this kind of service that makes you want to come back again and again.

In addition to the amazing setting, stunning sunrise experiences, and being family-friendly, the resort also caters to golfers. If you’re a keen golfer, be sure to pack your golf clubs!

Considered as one of the most beautiful and well-maintained courses in the region, the Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course is a must for the avid golfer.

Playa Tamarindo

Another hotel option is to stay at the popular Tamarindo beach 79 km (49 miles) from the city center of Guanacaste. Tamarindo Beach is about 17 km from JW Marriott Guanacaste if you go via Route 152.

The seaside town of Tamarindo is extremely popular amongst tourists and is known for excellent surfing and swimming.

Tamarindo’s beaches won’t disappoint you. Be sure to check out Playa Tamarindo. It’s jaw-droppingly picturesque. Playa Langosta is another smart option.

Guanacaste Travel Itinerary

To re-cap, it takes about 3 hours by car, when you follow our itinerary. That is from Vida Aventura to the city of Liberia, to Tamarindo, and finally to Pinilla.

  • Vida Aventura Nature Park

Starting off with Vida Aventura is a win-win travel tip. This is the quickest you'll get to forget about all the daily stress factors. Spending 2 nights at least, will give you the opportunity to go on a 1-day excursion in the park, doing horse-riding and having fun ziplining. To say the least.

  • Liberia

Two to three nights in Liberia should give you plenty of time to get acquainted with the city, the culture and Costa Rican cuisine.

  • Tamarindo

This is where you need to decide what kind of beach holiday you want. A busy touristy destination? Then Tamarindo is your answer. However, if you're looking for a laid-back beach holiday, then you should head on to the tiny village of Pinilla and book at the JW Marriot.

  • JW Marriott in Pinilla

If you want the best of both, I suggest you stay at JW Marriott and travel in and out to Tamarindo to participate in the various things to do in Tamarindo.
