Kandersteg Switzerland is a hiking paradise, a beautiful ski resort and an awesome holiday destination

Kandersteg is situated in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. This very pretty Swiss village in the Bernese Highlands is on the edge of the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage site.  This beautiful village in the valley of the Kander River is famous for its spectacular mountain and alpine landscapes.  As all Switzerland destinations it is also the perfect holiday destination any time of the year:  Offering beautiful hiking and mountain climbing adventures in summer and amazing skiing options in winter.  This is a hiking paradise.

Popular hiking / nature walks

  • Take a downhill walk to the beautiful Blausee Lake (approx. 1 ½ hour walk).  Then take the bus back to the village. Blausee is a small lake in the Kander valley, but it is beautiful.
  • The viewpoint at the Hoh offers spectacular views over the village and surrounding mountains. (approx. a 35 minute walk)
  • Lake Oeschinen (Oschinensee) can be accessed via the Kandersteg-Oeschinen cablecar, and it is really beautiful.  (Should you wish to walk, it is approx. 3.5 km from town.)
  • The area has a fabulous and huge amount of hiking trails and beautiful routes you can follow.  For all the information on the available hiking trails, you can refer to this map provided by Kandersteg Tourist Organisation.
  • One of the best Alpine hiking trails:
    • Via Alpina – Hike from Kandersteg to Adelboden (A 17 km hiking trail / Approx. 6 to 7 hours ) – I think this is one of the best hiking trails in the Alps:  Get the Via Alpina Hiking Pass and fill it stage by stage.  Once complete you will receive a certificate.  The stamps for each stage can be found in stamp boxes at the Tourist-Center Kandersteg and Adelboden. Here is the link to the MAP.
