Canada is the land of beautiful lakes. Glacial-fed alpine lakes, like Lake Louise, in the Rocky Mountains, are among the clearest in the world and therefore it is always well worth a visit.
If ever you’re in the Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, you should visit the beautiful glacier-fed, Lake Louise with its turquoise water and jaw-dropping views.
This serene lake is surrounded by majestic mountain peaks, overlooked by a beautiful, stately chateau and it sure is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
The closest airport is Calgary International Airport (YYC), located approximately 125 miles (200 km) from the lake.
Lake Louise is world famous for its beautiful turquoise lake, the Victoria Glacier, spectacular mountain backdrop (which makes for splendid Instagram photo shoots), the beautiful stately chateau hotel on the edge of the water, and incredible hiking trails. It is also known for its Ski Resort in winter, and in the summertime, this beautiful destination also offers fun nature-related activities for the whole family. Spending time on the lake in a canoe is just what the doctor ordered, and you must visit this special place to believe it is real.
Well, that would be only for the very brave. The temperature of the water rarely gets above 5C. (41F.) But if you’re up for the cold, the Lake Louise Polar Bear Dip is held during the Canada Day Celebrations on July 1st every year. So, the answer is Yes, but keep in mind there is a risk of suffering from hypothermia should you stay in the water for too long. Hypothermia happens very quickly due to the lake being fed by melting snow from the mountains.
The Banff National Park is huge and beautiful. Within the park you get the village of Lake Louise, Lake Louise (the actual lake) and then the town of Banff. The town of Lake Louise (an eight min drive away) has many options for accommodation, nice restaurants and you’ll find shopping opportunities.

Also, if you’re staying in the hotel, you can ask for their shuttle service. Staying in the hotel, means you don’t need a car as the lake is literally on your doorstep. Visiting popular sites within Banff National Park, such as Lake Minnewanka, Johnston Canyon, and Canmore, is possible without a car, but if you would like to explore the bigger area, you might want to rent a car for a day or two.
The beautiful hotel on the water’s edge at Lake Louise is called: Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

The best times to visit are June to August (summer), and December to March (winter). Water sport and hiking lovers will love spending time here during summer, while those in favor of the ski slopes would want to visit during the height of winter.
If you want to see the northern lights, visit Banff during wintertime (more specifically from October to May), for the best time to spot the Aurora Borealis.
