The flowers in the Namaqua region (also called Namakwa or Namakwaland) start to bloom in late July and early August up until September. But keep in mind that the flower times do differ according to rainfall. Sometimes you might even still get to see some flowers in October.
Flying in, to Cape Town International Airport (CPT) would be your nearest airport, should you wish to fly in. From here you can easily rent a car with one of the trusted and internationally known operators. You can travel along the N7, North towards Piekenierskloof pass.
Here you will find lovely flower sports and while you are there, do enjoy an authentic Rooibos Tea: After all Clanwilliam is the home of the original and much loved, Rooibos.
Staying overnight in the Clanwilliam / Citrusdal area is a good idea.
This is definitely one of the most famous stops, to see spectacular carpets of flowers in bloom. Fabulous photo opportunities (so don't forget your camera, spare storage and chargers).
Along the way, you'll find more flowers. Traveling from the Biedouw Valley to Vanrhynsdorp is 1 hr 41 min (147,8 km) via R364 and N7.
You can travel all the way to Springbok - which is a 2 hr 24 min (259,3 km) via N7 trip and along the way you might also find some beautiful flower stops. (However this is a longer road trip and definitely not a day trip from Cape-Town.)
Should you decide to explore the West Coast flowers, your route might start in Langebaan and from there all the way to Laaiplek, Veldrift and Elands Bay.
You can stop in Langebaan on your way back to Cape Town. The West Coast National Park is beautiful this time of the year and the Postberg Flower Reserve in Langebaan is definitely also a must-see place to stop for flowers.
(Part of the West Coast National Park) is not open to the public during the year, but they open to the public ONLY in flower season.
