Atlantic salmon is farmed in open-net pens (cages) anchored to the seafloor. Aquaculture of Atlantic salmon is widespread along coasts and fjords of Norway as well as Scotland. The regulatory measures in both countries are considered to be largely effective.”
A number of salmon farms in Norway have been certified by Aquaculture Stewardship Council as ecologically sustainable. A detailed list of certified farms is available on the ASC website.
Cod and herring also play a big role in the economy of Norway, but Salmon beat them all in terms of export.
