The news that “South Africa wins big at the 2021 World Travel Awards” for the African continent came at a suitable time. After an extended period of lockdowns and chilly winter, South Africans have reason to celebrate with numerous awards. Some of which they’ve scooped up year after year!

Cape Town took the honors for the fifth year running.

They had stiff competition from:

Africa's Festival & Event Destination 2021

Durban might not have won the leading city destination award, but it walked away as the place to be for festivals and events. Furthermore, it is their second year running that they scooped the award away from Cape Town (2018 – 2020). Not shabby! Even more impressive is that they competed against the likes of Marrakech and Rabat, both in Morocco.

Having lost the award to Nairobi in Kenya in 2016, Durban again came out tops for the 5th consecutive year.

Cape Town International Airport walked away with the award for the 5th year running.
